WFAN's 2015 Annual Conference
WFAN's 2015 annual conference will be Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7, at the Radisson Quad City Plaza in Davenport, Iowa. We hope you will join us to connect with 200 other women who, like you, are engaged in healthy food and farming! Click here to learn more about the conference and to register.
This year's theme is Women Protecting Pollinators, Protecting Food. In addition to creating and protecting habitat for native pollinators, conference sessions will focus on building robust local food systems in our communities, and supporting women farmers and landowners.
Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Robin Kimmerer (left), a distinguished teaching professor of environmental and forest biology at the State University of New York. Dr. Kimmerer is also founding director of the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment. She will talk about living in reciprocity with the land.
Field tours will visit the nearby Quad Cities Food Hub, Quad City Food Forest and Edible Landscape projects, and women-owned farms in Illinois and Iowa. Workshops will feature in-depth information on creating pollinator habitat, conserving farmland, resources for beginning farmers, leadership, slow money, land access, and more. Our popular Friday evening farm-to-table tasting event will showcase products and dishes from women farmers and chefs in the Quad Cities area.
Later Friday evening, we will offer a performance of Map of My Kingdom, a play written by Iowa's poet laureate Mary Swander. The play features stories of women navigating land legacy decisions within their families. Click here to watch a short video feature about the play from Harvest Public Media. We hope to see you in November at the Radisson Quad City Plaza. Questions? Call conference coodinator Leigh Adcock at 515.450.3591, or email her at this link.
